ProCEEd Team Changes

 In early May 2016, Thipphaphone Channavong joined the ProCEED team as a junior translator.  She is replacing Chanthala Koukeomanivongwho is on maternal leave until August 2016.  Development advisor Jonas Ewert recruited Phonevisay Silivong as his new assistant who supports  him in his work with the Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment in Khammouane  Province. More...

Exchange on Environmental Education between Kyrgyzstan and Laos

On 9-13 May 2016, GIZ integrated expert Aline Rosset from the Kyrgyz Republic visited the ProCEEd project in Lao PDR for an exchange on methods and implementation modes of environmental awareness raising. She discussed ProCEEd's work with her GIZ colleagues in Vientiane and joined an Environmental Tour in the Houaphan in 15 villages of Houa-Muong District and for administrative staff of the provincial and district government from 9-28 May, 2016. More...

Environmental Education Makes Government Authorities Aware of Importance of Forests

to Cope with Natural Disasters

Between March and April 2016, DEQP implemented ProCEEd's regular Environmental Tour for provincial and district government authorities in the Khammouanne, Sayaboury and Houaphan Provinces. The tour focused on forest protection and natural disasters. Useful Resources in the Garbage

Media Production for Environmental Tour on Forest Protection and Natural Disasters

ProCEEd further developed a series of new educational tools including a puppet and a theater play in preparation for the next cycle of environmental tours starting by 29 Feb, 2016. During workshops held on 4-7 January and 8-12 February 2016, staff and volunteers of DEQP and PADETC   learned how to write scripts and develop theater plays. Thakhek Schools Enjoy Environmental Tour

On 23 January 2016, ProCEEd welcomed around 220 young people to an evening event of the ProCEEd environmental tour in Thakhek, the capital of Khammouane Province. The Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment (PONRE) as the organizer of the event appreciated that so many students, their parents and Thakhek citizens accepted the invitation which had been distributed at schools and through the radio. More...

Six additional staff members joined the project in 2015. A new international advisor filled a position vacant since the end of 2014. Two German development advisors and their local assistants support ProCEEd in cooperation with the Provincial Offices of Natural Resources and Environment in Khammouane and Houaphan. Raising Awareness about Garbage Prevention at That Luang Festival 2015

From 20-25 Nov 2015, members of the Mobile Conservation Unit (MCU) of the National University of Laos and staff of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment raised the awareness of visitors of the That Luang Festival about garbage prevention and proper waste disposal. Showcase of Good Practices in Waste Management during Wat Chan Boat Racing Festival 2015

Hundreds of people at the Wat Chan Boat Racing Festival in Vientiane at the end of October experienced the ‘Garbage Monster Experience’, an educational booth ProCEEd developed in close cooperation with MCU of the National University of Laos. New Theatre Play on Biodiversity

As a follow-up of preparing for a new cycle of ProCEEd's Environmental Tour 2015, the teams running the bus tours needed a new theatre play related to biodiversity, one of the project's and upcoming tours' major themes. Building a New Team for ProCEEd in 2015-2017

As a result of the project's extension until 2017, three additional staff members joined the GIZ team of ProCEEd in summer 2015. During a workshop in Vang Vieng from 17-19 Aug, 2015 the newcomers and the projects 'old hands' had a chance to learn to know each other in a relaxed learning environment. New Topic, New Team, New Province - Bus Tour on Waste Management in Bolikhamxai

On 20-31 July, 2015 ProCEEd's environmental truck and bus toured 20 villages and reached almost 2,500 students in the Thapabath, Paksan and Pakkading districts of Bolikhamsai Province, which so far had not been reached by the project's Environmental Tour. Show Time for Co-Management and Forest Conservation in Laos

During a workshop in Vientiane from 29 June to 3 July, 2015, Lao National Theater instructors trained ten DEQP and PADETC staff and volunteers on theater skills. Using DEQP technical input, PADETC field experience and LNT theater skills, a new theater play about forest protection was created. Sayaboury Villagers Learn about Participatory Forest Management and Wildlife Conservation

Young and old in 17 villages in Sayaboury Province enjoyed ProCEEd's environmental education tour in the first two weeks of June 2015. The tour team used games, music, and a theater play to engage the villagers. Developing Writing Skills of DEQP Staff

ProCEEd invited DEQP personnel to a one-day writeshop at Vientiane Plaza Hotel on 6-7 April, 2015. The project’s trainer introduced the 5Ws and the 3Cs as the fundamental principles of journalistic writing. Participants practiced their skills when everyone wrote an article in Lao language. Preparation for Environmental Bus Tours 2015


On 25-27 March, 2015, ProCEEd held a workshop in Vientiane to prepare DEQP and PADETC for the 2015 environmental bus tours to Khammouane, Huaphan and Sayaboury. Staff Changes in Lao-German Team

In November 2014, ProCEEd bid good bye to members of the Lao-German team. Lissa Peters and Charlotte Bieger completed an internship on solid waste management. GIZ advisor Uwe Singer was responsible for environmental bus tours and non-formal environmental education activities. In May 2015, the new GIZ advisor is expected to arrive. New Environmental Radio Program in Khammouane

The radio stations in Thakhek and Boualapha, Khammouane started broadcasting the weekly magazine “For the Environment” in August 2014. In mid October, journalists from both stations and staff of the Lao-German HNN-NPA project joined forces with LNR trainers and a German media specialist to improve the program’s quality by producing two 30-minute master magazines. Environmental Bus Tour Stages Theatre Play on Forest Protection

On 12 Oct, 2014 ProCEEd started a one-month Environmental Bus Tour to, Sayaboury province. National Strategy on Environmental and Climate Change Education and Awareness 2016-2030 Revised

On 6 Oct 2014, stakeholders in a workshop in Vientiane discussed the revised National Strategy on Environmental and Climate Change Education and Awareness 2016-2030 and the related Five Year Action Plan 2016-2020. A final workshop planned for early 2015 will conclude the revision process and provide a final draft of the two documents for approval and adoption by the government. More...

The Lao and German governments decided to extend the ProCEEd project until September 2017. On 28. Aug, 2014, the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development commissioned the extension as part of Lao-German development cooperation. Environmental Bus Promotes Biodiversity and Wildlife Protection in Rural Khammouane

On 18 Nov, 2013 the Environmental Bus Tour started going rural: a one-month tour until mid January 2014 will cover 14 villages in the Boualapha District near the Hin Nam No National Protected Area (NPA). Germany Commits Two Environmental Education Vehicles to MoNRE

Science Film Festival Features Environmental Education

The 2013 Science Film Festival (SFF) in Laos opened for public viewings from 7-9 Nov, 2013 at the Cinema Department in Vientiane. The SFF presents science in a new ‘edutainment’ format, attracting many people in Laos to science for the first time. On 8 Nov, 2013 PADETC used ProCEEd’s environmental bus at the SFF site to rehearse a new Environmental Tour curriculum that will take them to villages in Khammouane from mid November 2013 to mid January 2014.  More...

Local Government in Khammouane Learns about Co-Management through Environmental Tour

Staff members of DEQP hopped ProCEEd’s environmental bus for Khammouane from 27 Oct to 1 Nov, 2013. They surprised their colleagues in the provincial capital, Thakek, and in Boualapha District with bus tour programs on biodiversity, wildlife and the new concept of co-management in the nearby Hin Nam No National Protected Area. Environmental Bus Tour Starts at Schools in Vientiane

Children in Sayaboury Learn about Environmental Protection and Climate Change

Fourty children enthusiastically engaged in an environmental education workshop at the Children Development Centre in Sayaboury Province on 20-22 Sept, 2013. They learned about the role of forests and climate change through infotainment, an approach that combines factual information with entertainment in songs, role plays and games. Survey Results Presented on Environmental Awareness in Lao PDR


During a meeting at Settha Palace Hotel in Vientiane on 6 August 2013, ProCEEd presented results from a survey on the knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) regarding environment, biodiversity and climate change.  Participants in the conference comprised representatives of government and non-government, civil society mass and donor organizations, mass media, and the private sector who had also been interviewed for the survey in 2012.   More...

MoNRE Presents Environmental Photo Competition Awards 2013

Mr. Khampadith Khammounheuang, Director General of the Department for Environmental Quality Promotion at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, presented awards to the ten winners of the first ever Environmental Photo Competition during a ceremony at Settha Palace Hotel in Vientiane on 24 July, 2013. Workshops Prepare Environmental Bus Tour Program 2013

Two workshops in June and July 2013 prepared participants from various organizations for the contents and non-formal education aids of the ProCEEd Environmental Bus Tour later this year. Participants intend to act as tour operators who facilitate interactive environmental education activities inside and outside a bus and a truck. Environmental Magazines on Lao National Radio and TV

Based on recommendations from an international development communication expert, two environmental magazines broadcast by Lao National Radio (LNR) and Lao National TV (LNTV) and supported by ProCEEd since January 2013 have been evaluated and reshaped in June 2013. LNR’s weekly environmental radio magazine is broadcast every Monday morning from 08:00 - 08:30. Viewers of LNTV can watch the corresponding TV magazine every Sunday evening from 19:00 - 19:30.   More...

Film Summer School 2013

Twelve students of the Film Summer School 2013 presented three of their productions in Vientiane on 20 June, 2013. All of the film documentaries deal with environmental protection and were shot in the Hin Nam No National Protected Area in Khammouane during a one-week field trip in mid June. Beforehand, German filmmaker Thomas Lauterbach shared the fundamentals of visual storytelling and digital production and editing with his Lao students.   More...

Celebrating World Environment Day

On 5 June 2013, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment invited other government agencies to celebrate World Environment Day. This year’s motto was Think.Eat.Save. During a one-day workshop, participants learned about linkages between environmental and agricultural resource protection and food and nutrition security. New Corporate Design for ProCEED

Increasing media exposure of ProCEEd activities made it necessary for the project to establish a corporate design. Lao graphical designers came up with creative ideas in a competitive bidding completed in mid April. The winning design comprises three distinct graphical elements: A three-layer and three-color wave line with a silhouette symbolizing rural environment in Laos, and the project’s tagline “Environment – We care today for tomorrow”.   More...

A group of 18 participants from MoNRE and PADETC learned about inter­active moderation and visualization methods in a MOVE workshop dated 8-10 April, 2013. MoNRE Study Reveals Low Environmental Awareness in Laos

MoNRE conducted a first-ever comprehensive environmental awareness survey among villagers and urban decision makers in Vientiane, Khammouane, Huaphan and Sayaboury in late 2012. Interviews focused on what the respondents know, feel and do regarding climate change and the environment. Alarmingly, half of the respondents agreed to exploit the environment for satisfying human needs as they do not believe that the environment is in danger.   More...

Integrating Environmental Education into Vocational Training Schools

In early April, 2013 ProCEEd published a study identifying approaches to integrate environmental education into the curricula and training at two Integrated Vocational Education and Training schools in the Sayabouly and Houaphan provinces. The project will support the integration of climate-related content into selected vocational education programs. Environmental Education Tours for the Young

ProCEEd supported the Green Care Fund in eight of its tours to the Phou Kha Khouy National Protected Area from January to March 2013. The 2-day tours put young people from Vientiane Capital and villages of Vientiane Province in touch with nature. In an entertaining way they learn about the environment and the forest. You can now watch 12 professionally produced documentary films broadcast on LNTV in 2017. Three or four episodes of 15 minutes each make up for a mini-series that focuses on a specific topic, e.g. wildlife or forest protection. More films supported by ProCEEd and other GIZ projects are shown as well.

ENVIRONMENTAL RADIO



You can listen in to selected radio programs produced by LNR Khammouane in Thakek and Boualapha as well as by LNR Huaphan in Sam Neua and Houameuang. Some of them have even been translated into Khmu and Hmong language. Three 15-min episodes make up for a mini-series that focuses on a specific topic.
