Traveling Photo Exhibitions Continued in 2014

ProCEEd’s environmental bus joined the third Faculty of Engineering Job Fair on 22 May, 2014. The event at the faculty’s campus was organised by the faculty in cooperation with the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Lao PDR (ECCIL), the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) and the National University of Laos.

ProCEEd contributed to the event by displaying the 10 best photos selected from the 2013 environmental photo competition organized by the project through the Department for Environmental Quality Production. The campus was an ideal venue to raise environmental awareness among students. The Faculty of Engineering offers a course on environmental engineering. Awareness raising among students is necessary since a ProCEEd survey on environmental knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) found that KAP levels are low – even among the well-educated who deal with the environment professionally.  Hence, students need to be better prepared to act as change agents towards more environmentally friendly behavior patterns in the Lao society as a whole.

Side shows during a job fair can only serve as an eye-opener on environmental matters. However, the photo exhibition attracted a large number of students and teachers. Moreover, flyers on wildlife and biodiversity conservation, climate change, forest protection and co-management of NPAs were handed out and posters on the same topics were presented.  The travelling photo exhibition remained on campus for a week after the one-day job fair, and will travel to another four locations in 2014 including schools and semi-public places to continue environmental awareness raising activities.
